The Alex Hotel Dublin is a 4-star boutique hotel in the heart of Dublin City.
With over 103 luxury rooms and suites, the hotel is a short walk from the city centre and only a €25.00-€30.00 taxi ride from the airport.
The Alex is part of the O’Callaghan Collection, with three other hotels available in Dublin.
I booked The Alex Suite on my visit with the Eat, Sleep and Reconnect package.
The package included:-
- 2-Course Dinner for two
- 1 Complimentary drink per guest
- Breakfast the following morning
Eat, Sleep and Reconnect Package
Reconnect with a friend or loved one during a stay at the Alex.
Enjoy a 2-course evening meal in the Carriage Restaurant on a night of your choosing to include a cocktail, beer or glass of house wine per person.
Then, get a relaxing night’s sleep in one of our luxurious bedrooms before indulging in a delicious breakfast in the morning.
How much did the room cost?
The package and the suite cost €369.00 on a Saturday night stay in October 2021.
The cost included the 2-Course Dinner for two, breakfast and access to the executive lounge.
Check-in
I wasn’t expecting the room to be ready, and I thought I would leave my luggage and go for a workaround Dublin. My Ryanair flight arrived in Dublin from Manchester at 9.00 am. I got through security pretty quick, and a taxi ride later, I was at the hotel before 10.30 am.
However, to my surprise, the room was available, and I could make use of the executive lounge as well.
The Room
The Alex Suite was approximately 48sqm/516sqft with a separate bedroom and lounge area, accommodating a maximum of three adults or two adults and two children.
The lounge area was spacious with a large TV and comfortable sofa, and separate table and chairs.
Tea and coffee were available, along with a fridge and Nespresso Coffee Machine.
My only criticism would be that the wardrobe, iron and ironing board were all located in the lounge area and not in the suite’s bedroom.
In the bedroom, there was a comfortable king-size bed and dressing table.
Once again, like in UK hotels, the air conditioning wasn’t great, so the windows were left open at night.
The bathroom was a good size with a bathtub and shower.
The hotel provided complimentary amenities by Paul Costelloe, including body wash, body lotion and conditioning shampoo.

Executive Lounge
Due to the Covid-19 measures in Ireland, the executive lounge was open, but you could not occupy the seated area. However, you were able to help yourself to drinks during the day, until 7.00 pm.
There was a selection of hot and cold drinks, including coffee, bottled water, and other well-known soft drinks.
As seen in the picture above, the alcoholic drink selection was limited to red and white wine and beers. However, it was available all day, unlike most executive lounges in other hotel groups.
There were no real snack options with a couple of bags of crisps, a bowl of sweets and some health bars!
It wasn’t a problem during my stay, but I don’t think it would be a great place to relax when things get back to normal as the lounge is small.
Food & Drink
I rarely eat at hotels as I find the food and drink overpriced. However, because I booked the room with a two-course dinner for two include, I reviewed the food on offer at The Carriage Restaurant.
The restaurant is open from 12.00 pm to 10.00 pm with vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options available if that’s your preference.
I had the Duck pancakes (€9.50) to start and the 10oz Striploin steak (€26.00) for my main. The food was okay, nothing fancy but reasonable in price if you were paying from the menu.
Review The Carriage Restaurant Menu
Breakfast was part of the booking, and you could have it at The Carriage Restaurant or in your room.
I opted to have it in the room as there was plenty of space for two people to sit down and enjoy a relaxing breakfast in the suite’s lounge area.
There were plenty of hot and cold options available. Room service was on time with a hot English Breakfast, toast, fruit, orange juice and coffee.
Staff and Service
I couldn’t fault either, and the only issue was when I checked out as my bill was incorrect. It took the staff a while to sort things out, but they did in the end.
Tips
- Book direct with the Hotel as you can find offers that are not available on booking websites.
- The Eat, Sleep and Reconnect package was cheaper than booking The Alex Suite with bed and breakfast only.
- Book The Alex Suite as it was worth the additional expense for the comfort.
Summary: Alex Hotel Dublin
Overall I enjoyed the hotel stay, and it exceeded my expectations; therefore, I would book again. The Hotel is in an excellent location and only a short walk to the city centre.
