Detailed Review of the Hilton Garden Inn

During our brief stay following our connection at Heathrow Terminal 5, we regretfully did not have the opportunity to dine or have breakfast at the hotel, which was something we were looking forward to.

However, we made the most of our time by indulging in a few drinks at the Runway and Apron Bars, as well as at The Queen’s Arms in Terminal 2, making for a pleasant experience despite our missed dining opportunity.

Check In

As Hilton Honours Gold Members, we were especially grateful for the convenience of online check-in, which allowed us to seamlessly select our preferred room while prepaying for our stay in advance.

Although we did not receive an upgrade on this occasion, the attentive staff member took the time to inquire about our breakfast plans. When we mentioned our early flight, they graciously offered us extra points for our stay, acknowledging that we would miss breakfast.

This kind and considerate action truly stood out to us, and we would like to commend the Hilton team for their commitment to exceptional service that went above and beyond our expectations.

King Room

We opted for a king room on a higher floor that offered views of the runway, and while visibility was somewhat limited in the dark, we knew the scenery would be delightful during daylight hours.

The room itself was spacious and featured convenient amenities like a fridge and coffee/tea-making facilities, allowing us to enjoy refreshments at our leisure. The bed was comfortable, providing a restful night’s sleep, and to our pleasant surprise, the air conditioning was fully functional, marking a refreshing change in a UK hotel experience.

The bathroom features a walk-in shower with a rainfall showerhead and a handheld showerhead, but it lacks a bath.

Toiletries are provided via wall-mounted dispensers with Crabtree & Evelyn products, including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and hand wash.

The Bathroom was stocked with fresh towels, facecloths, and toilet paper. A hairdryer is provided, along with a shaving and magnifying mirror and a well-lit vanity mirror with nearby power outlets.

Restaurants & Bars

We didn’t eat at the hotel, but there were several food and drink options available at the Hilton Garden Inn.

The Apron Restaurant & Bar is open from breakfast through late evening. You can enjoy a full English Breakfast, plus an all-day menu featuring burgers, curries, pizzas, fish and chips, as well as Mediterranean and Asian dishes.

Pricing in the restaurant wasn’t bad for a London Airport Hotel, with a Margarita Pizza costing £18.00, a Burger £22.50, Fish and Chips £22.00 and a Butter Chicken Masala £22.00.

The Bar menu was also reasonable for an airport hotel, with a pint of beer priced between £7.50 and £8.00 and a large glass of wine ranging from £10.00 to £17.00, depending on your taste. A bottle of Spanish Chardonnay was £31.50, which is the option we plump for in the bar.

Apron Restaurant Bar Area

The Runway Bar at Hilton Garden Inn Heathrow was somewhat disappointing, as it is touted as a standout feature offering a unique airport experience by the hotel. It was January and dark outside when we visited, but it lacked a bit of atmosphere.

Located on the 14th floor, it offers 360° panoramic views of Heathrow’s runways and the London skyline (during the day). However, on our visit, the service was slow, and there was no draft beer on tap; therefore you will end up paying a premium for bottled beer.

Staff & Service

The staff at reception were incredibly helpful, providing us with a comprehensive insight into the range of food and drink options the hotel offers, ensuring we felt well-informed and comfortable in making our choices during our stay.

The service at the Runway Bar was notably slow, prompting us to take a stroll over to terminal 2, where we enjoyed a drink at the Queen’s Arms.

Upon returning to the hotel, we decided to unwind with some wine in the Apron Bar, but unfortunately, we encountered slow service once again; however, the staff were genuinely helpful and attentive, which made the experience more enjoyable despite the delays.
