Overall Rating: ★★★★☆
Expectation Level: Exceeded Our Expectations
Best For: Harbour views, The Rocks location, couples, first-time Sydney visitors, and travellers wanting Horizon Club benefits
Not Ideal For: Guests who dislike hills, travellers who prefer a boutique hotel feel, or anyone wanting to stay directly on the waterfront
Our Shangri-La Sydney Hotel Review follows our late-evening arrival into Sydney after flying Emirates from Manchester via Dubai. After a long journey, we wanted a hotel that felt comfortable, calm and easy from the moment we arrived.
Shangri-La Sydney gave us a strong first impression. The hotel sits in The Rocks, one of Sydney’s most historic areas, with excellent views across Sydney Harbour, the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.
We stayed in a Horizon Club Sydney Harbour Room, which gave us access to the Horizon Lounge. The views, room comfort and fantastic lounge staff helped the hotel exceed our expectations.

Location
Shangri-La Sydney has one of the best locations in the city for harbour views. The hotel sits above The Rocks, close to Circular Quay, Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House.
The location works well for sightseeing. We could explore The Rocks, walk towards the harbour, visit nearby restaurants, and enjoy classic Sydney views without having to travel far.
The only point to mention is the hill. The hotel sits above the harbour, so the walk back can feel steep after a long day. However, the elevated position offers incredible views that make the stay feel special.
Check-in Experience
Check-in felt quick, simple and well organised. We arrived late in the evening after a long Emirates journey, so we appreciated a smooth arrival.

The staff explained the Horizon Club benefits clearly, which helped us understand what we could use during our stay. A clear and friendly check-in always makes a big difference, especially after a long-haul flight.
For us, Shangri-La Sydney made our stay comfortable and made our arrival feel easy.
Hotel Services and Facilities
Shangri-La Sydney offers the type of facilities you expect from a luxury city hotel. The hotel has a health club, indoor swimming pool, gym, sauna and spa facilities, which give guests plenty of options during their stay.
The hotel also has several dining and drinking options, including Altitude Restaurant, which offers elevated dining with views over Sydney Harbour. Although we did not eat in the main hotel restaurants during our stay, the setting and views make the hotel feel very impressive.
The public areas felt polished and elegant. The hotel has a large, luxury feel, and the harbour views remain the main highlight throughout the property.
Horizon Club Sydney Harbour Room
Our Horizon Club Sydney Harbour Room gave us exactly what we wanted after a long journey: a comfortable bed, a relaxing space and stunning views over Sydney Harbour.

The room felt comfortable and well-suited for a luxury city stay. The bed gave us a good night’s sleep, which mattered after flying from Manchester to Dubai and then on to Sydney.
The harbour view became the standout feature. Looking out towards Sydney Harbour made the room feel memorable and gave the stay a real sense of occasion.
For our Shangri-La Sydney Hotel Review, the room played a big part in the hotel exceeding our expectations. The view added a wow factor, while the comfort made the room feel easy to enjoy.
Horizon Club Lounge
Horizon Club access added good value to our stay. The lounge gave us a quieter space to enjoy breakfast, drinks and evening canapés without needing to use the main hotel restaurants.

The lounge views added to the experience, and the setting felt special. We always enjoy club lounge access when it feels calm, comfortable and well-managed.
The lounge did become busy during the evening service between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. At times, the busier atmosphere made the space feel less peaceful. However, the excellent staff helped keep the service running well.
Food & Drink
We did not eat in any of the main restaurants during our stay at Shangri-La Sydney. However, we used the Horizon Club Lounge for breakfast and evening canapés, which added good value to our stay.

Breakfast in the Horizon Lounge gave us a relaxed start to the day. The setting felt comfortable, and the harbour views made breakfast feel more special.
In the evening, we returned to the Horizon Lounge for drinks and canapés. The 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm evening service became busy, which made the lounge feel less calm at times. However, the staff handled the busy period well and continued to provide fantastic service.
For us, the Horizon Club Lounge remained a strong part of our Shangri-La Sydney Hotel Review. The food and drink offering was useful, the harbour views enhanced the experience, and the lounge team made the busy periods feel more manageable.
Staff & Service
Service in the Horizon Club Lounge was fantastic throughout our stay. The staff made the experience feel warm, polished and personal, which added real value to our visit.
We found the lounge team friendly, attentive and professional. They kept the service running smoothly and made us feel welcome each time we visited.
Good staff can make a luxury hotel feel even more special, and the Horizon Club team did exactly that. For us, the excellent lounge service became one of the strongest parts of our Shangri-La Sydney Hotel Review.
What We Liked
We loved the harbour views, especially from our Horizon Club Sydney Harbour Room. The views gave the stay a true Sydney feel and made the hotel memorable.
We also liked the quick check-in, the comfortable bed, and the access to the Horizon Club Lounge. The lounge staff stood out for all the right reasons and helped make the stay feel more personal.
The location also worked well for sightseeing, especially The Rocks, Circular Quay, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and the Opera House area.
What Could Be Better
The Horizon Club Lounge became busy during the evening drinks-and-canapés service between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. A busy lounge can diminish the relaxed, luxurious feel, especially when guests choose club access for a calmer experience.
The hill back to the hotel may not suit everyone either. The elevated location gives Shangri-La Sydney its stunning views, but guests with mobility issues or anyone who dislikes steep walks may prefer to use taxis or rideshares.
Shangri-La Sydney Hotel Review: Overall Verdict
Our Shangri-La Sydney Hotel Review ends on a positive note. The hotel exceeded our expectations thanks to its stunning Sydney Harbour views, quick check-in, comfortable Horizon Club Sydney Harbour Room and fantastic service in the Horizon Club Lounge.
The hotel delivered a memorable luxury stay. The evening lounge service became busy, and the uphill walk may not suit everyone, but the overall experience felt special.
