Our Mudbrick The Archive Bistro Review covers one of the real highlights of our short three-night stay in Auckland. During our time in the city, we took a trip to Waiheke Island and enjoyed lunch at The Archive Bistro at Mudbrick Vineyard.

We did not eat in the main Mudbrick Restaurant. We ate at The Archive Bistro, which suited us perfectly. The bistro offered a relaxed vineyard feel while still giving us the scenic setting, lovely food and excellent wine we hoped for.

After a disappointing hotel stay in Auckland, our visit to The Archive Bistro gave us exactly the kind of memorable travel moment we wanted. The setting, service, food, and wine all came together beautifully, making the journey to Waiheke Island feel worthwhile.

Getting to Waiheke Island

The trip to Waiheke Island added to the whole experience. Leaving central Auckland behind gave the day a completely different feel, and the island immediately felt calmer and more scenic.

Mudbrick Vineyard sits in a lovely location and offers the kind of views that make Waiheke Island so popular. From the moment we arrived, the setting felt special. The vineyard atmosphere set a relaxed tone for lunch, and we immediately felt glad we had made the trip.

For anyone staying in Auckland for a few nights, Waiheke Island makes a great day out. It gives you a break from the city and offers a slower, more enjoyable pace.

We liked the balance between scenic dining and casual comfort. Some vineyard restaurants can feel a little too formal, but The Archive Bistro kept things easy and enjoyable. The setting felt stylish without feeling stiff.

Our Mudbrick The Archive Bistro Review stays very positive because the visit felt enjoyable from the start. The team welcomed us warmly, the surroundings looked beautiful, and the lunch felt like a proper highlight of our Auckland getaway.

Food and Drink

The food at The Archive Bistro tasted fresh, enjoyable and well presented.

We started with rosemary focaccia served with whipped butter. It looked simple, but it tasted delicious. The bread had a golden top, a soft centre and a lovely savoury flavour. It made a great start to the meal and worked perfectly with the relaxed vineyard setting.

We also enjoyed the confit pork belly, served with salsa roja, fennel and zucchini. The dish looked excellent on the plate and delivered plenty of flavour. The pork tasted rich and satisfying, while the garnish and sauce added freshness, colour and balance.

The food felt right for the location. It did not try too hard, but it still felt special enough for a memorable lunch.

Our Mudbrick The Archive Bistro Review also has to mention the wine. We enjoyed a bottle of Cloudy Bay Pelorus, a New Zealand sparkling wine. It suited the setting perfectly and added a celebratory feel to the meal. Sitting in a vineyard setting, with good food and a lovely bottle of wine, made the experience even more memorable.
