Paesano Pizza Glasgow Review: Great Value and Excellent Crust, but Too Much Tomato for Us
Overall rating: ★★★☆☆
Expectation level: Met our expectations.
Best for: Quick meals, groups, pre-concert dining and fans of soft Neapolitan pizza
Not ideal for: Diners who prefer crisp bases, less tomato or a quiet setting
A Quick Meal Before Metallica
Our Paesano Pizza Glasgow Review covers a pre-concert meal at the Miller Street restaurant in Glasgow city centre.
We were staying nearby at the Mercure Glasgow City Hotel and wanted somewhere quick and easy before travelling to Hampden Park to see Metallica. Paesano Pizza sits just around the corner from the hotel, so the location suited our plans perfectly.
Paesano describes the Miller Street branch as the place where the business began. The restaurant specialises in traditional Neapolitan pizza prepared with Italian ingredients and cooked in artisan wood-fired ovens built in Naples.
Our meal offered good service, a lively atmosphere and fair value. However, the pizzas contained more tomato sauce than we personally enjoy, which stopped the experience from earning a higher score.

Finding Paesano Pizza on Miller Street
Paesano Pizza is located at 94 Miller Street, Glasgow, G1 1DT.

The restaurant sits within easy walking distance of George Square, Buchanan Street and several major city-centre hotels. Anyone staying at the Mercure Glasgow City Hotel will find it particularly convenient, as the walk takes only a few minutes.
The restaurant looked busy and informal when we arrived, which matched the quick pre-concert meal we wanted.
Waiting for a Table
We arrived with no wait and stood for approximately five minutes before a member of staff found us a table.
A member of staff seated us towards the back of the dining room. The position gave us a good view of the bar and the open, industrial-style interior.
Inside the Restaurant
The dining room has a modern industrial look, with exposed ventilation pipes, metal lighting fixtures, wooden tables, and a large central bar.
Oversized black pendant lights hang above the dining area, while illuminated Paesano lettering adds personality behind the bar. Rustic wood, metal fittings and exposed structural features create an informal setting.

The tables sat fairly close together, although we never felt ignored by the staff.
Paesano focuses on a short menu rather than offering an extensive selection. The menu features 10 pizzas, along with sides and desserts.
Anyone expecting a broad Italian menu with pasta, risotto and meat dishes may find the choice limited. Pizza remains the main reason to visit.
The Paesano Pizza Menu
The menu listed ten numbered Neapolitan pizzas, starting with a simple tomato, garlic and basil option.
Choices included buffalo mozzarella, olives and anchovies, spicy salami, cooked ham and mushrooms, grilled peppers, Tuscan fennel sausage, spinach and ricotta, smoked scamorza, and spicy ’Nduja.
Side dishes included ricotta with sea salt, mixed salad, bruschetta, burrata Caprese salad, olives, balsamic onions and an Italian meat antipasto.
Desserts ranged from soft-serve ice cream to cannoli, affogato, tiramisu and cheesecake.
What We Ordered
We ordered two pizzas:
- Spicy Ventricina and ’Nduja di Spilinga, with tomato sugo, fior di latte mozzarella and basil
- Hot Calabrese spianata salami, with tomato sugo, fior di latte mozzarella, basil and extra-virgin olive oil

We particularly liked the crust. It tasted light, soft and slightly chewy, with a good rise around the edge.
However, the large amount of tomato sauce dominated the pizza. We enjoy tomato, but the base tasted too wet and tomato-heavy for our personal preference.
Many diners may enjoy that authentic soft Neapolitan texture. Personal taste played a major part in our reaction, as we normally prefer a slightly firmer pizza with less sauce.
Our Paesano Pizza Glasgow review, therefore, reflects our own preference rather than suggesting that the kitchen prepared the pizzas badly.
We also ordered a bottle of Sauvignon from Veneto and a draught Menabrea beer served by the schooner.
The meal arrived without delay, which helped because we needed time to travel to Hampden Park before the concert.
Wine and Beer
We ordered a bottle of Sauvignon from Veneto to share.
The wine tasted fine and worked reasonably well with the spicy toppings. It did not stand out as a particularly memorable bottle, but it provided an easy-drinking option for a casual meal.
We also ordered a draught Menabrea beer. The beer tasted okay, although £4.95 for a schooner felt expensive for the amount served.
The drinks arrived promptly, and the staff kept our table organised throughout the meal.
Service at Paesano Pizza
Service remained good from arrival to payment.
The team seated us after only a short wait, took our order efficiently and brought the food without unnecessary delays. Staff understood that many guests wanted a casual and relatively quick meal.
Nobody rushed us, but the restaurant operated at a brisk pace. That style suited our plans because we had a concert to attend.
We had no problems attracting attention when we needed assistance, and the final bill arrived promptly.
Service ranks among the strongest parts of our Paesano Pizza Glasgow review.
Was Paesano Pizza Good Value?
Our total bill came to £60.61, including the service charge.
The bill covered two pizzas, a bottle of wine and a draught beer. Considering the city-centre location and the amount we ordered, the price felt fair.
Paesano adds an optional discretionary 10% service charge. Guests can ask staff to remove an optional charge when necessary.
What We Liked
The Miller Street location worked perfectly for our stay at the nearby Mercure Glasgow City Hotel.
We also liked the short waiting time, efficient service and lively interior. The restaurant offered exactly the quick and uncomplicated experience we needed before travelling to Hampden Park.
Both pizzas had excellent crusts, with a light, airy texture and attractive wood-fired charring.
The final bill of £60.61 felt reasonable for two pizzas, wine, beer and service in central Glasgow.
What Could Be Better
Both pizzas contained too much tomato sauce for our taste.
The large quantity of sugo made the centres soft and allowed the tomato flavour to dominate the meat, mozzarella, and basil. Less sauce would have created a better balance for us.
The Menabrea beer also felt expensive at £4.95 for a schooner rather than a full pint.
Guests who prefer crisp, firm pizzas with restrained toppings may not enjoy Paesano’s soft Neapolitan style.
Who Will Enjoy Paesano Pizza?
Paesano Pizza should suit diners who enjoy authentic Neapolitan pizza with a soft centre, a puffy crust, and a generous tomato base.
The restaurant also works well for:
- Quick city-centre lunches
- Informal meals with friends
- Pre-concert dining
- Families and groups
- Visitors staying near George Square
- Diners looking for reasonably priced pizza
Who May Prefer Somewhere Else?
Paesano may not suit people who prefer thin, crisp pizza throughout.
Anyone looking for a quiet restaurant, an extensive Italian menu, or a long, relaxed fine-dining experience should consider another venue.
Diners who dislike generous tomato sauce may also find the pizzas too wet or tomato-heavy.
Overall Verdict
Our Paesano Pizza Glasgow review reaches a balanced three-star verdict.
Paesano delivered a convenient location, quick service, a lively atmosphere and good-quality wood-fired crusts. The restaurant also offered reasonable overall value, with our bill coming to £60.61 including service.
However, neither pizza fully matched our personal preferences. We found the tomato sugo too generous, which made the pizzas taste overly tomato-led and softened the centres.
The wine tasted fine, while the beer proved less impressive due to the schooner serving size and £4.95 price.
Paesano met our expectations and gave us the quick, easy meal we needed before travelling to Hampden Park. We understand why many people enjoy its authentic Neapolitan style, even though the pizzas did not completely suit us.
