With 103 beautifully designed rooms and suites, it’s just a short stroll from the city’s top attractions and only a €25–€30 taxi ride from Dublin Airport, making it an effortless choice for both leisure and business travellers.
Part of the well-regarded O’Callaghan Collection, The Alex sits alongside three other Dublin hotels known for their contemporary design and warm Irish hospitality.
For our stay, we booked The Alex Suite and opted for the Eat, Sleep and Reconnect package—a thoughtfully curated offer designed for guests looking to unwind, reconnect, and enjoy a little indulgence.
What the Eat, Sleep and Reconnect Package Includes
- A 2-course dinner for two
- One complimentary drink per guest (cocktail, beer, or house wine)
- Breakfast the following morning
This package encourages you to slow down and spend quality time with someone special. Dinner is served in the stylish Carriage Restaurant, where you can enjoy a relaxed evening meal with your chosen drink, followed by a restful night in one of the hotel’s luxurious rooms. Morning begins with a delicious breakfast—an ideal start before exploring the city or journeying home.
How Much Did the Room Cost?
For ourf Saturday night stay in October 2021, the total cost for The Alex Suite with the Eat, Sleep and Reconnect package was €369.00. This price included the 2-course dinner for two, breakfast, and access to the hotel’s executive lounge, offering excellent value for a premium weekend experience in the city centre.

Check-In at The Alex Hotel Dublin
After a smooth Ryanair flight from Manchester, we arrived in Dublin at 9:00 am, cleared security quickly, and reached The Alex Hotel Dublin just before 10:30 am. We weren’t expecting our room to be ready so early, so the plan was simply to drop off our luggage and head out for a walk around the city.
To our surprise, the reception team informed us that our suite was already available—a wonderful and unexpected start to our stay. Even better, we were given immediate access to the executive lounge, making the entire check-in experience feel relaxed, welcoming, and effortlessly smooth.
The Room
The Alex Suite offered us approximately 48sqm/516sqft of space, featuring a separate bedroom and a generous lounge area. The layout easily accommodates up to three adults or two adults and two children, making it ideal for couples, friends, or small families.
The lounge was bright and spacious, complete with a large TV, a comfortable sofa, and a separate table with chairs—perfect for relaxing, working, or enjoying a quiet drink. We appreciated the in-room conveniences, which included tea and coffee facilities, a fridge, and a Nespresso coffee machine.
Our only criticism was that the wardrobe, iron, and ironing board were all located in the lounge rather than the bedroom, which felt a little impractical when getting ready.
The bedroom featured a plush king-size bed and a dressing table—simple, stylish, and comfortable. As we’ve often experienced in UK and Irish hotels, the air conditioning wasn’t the strongest, so we left the windows open at night to keep the room cool.
The bathroom was a good size, offering both a bathtub and a shower, which added a nice touch of versatility. Complimentary Paul Costelloe amenities were provided, including body wash, body lotion, and conditioning shampoo—elevating the overall luxury feel of the suite.
Alex Suite Room Features
During our stay in The Alex Suite, we enjoyed a range of thoughtful features and amenities designed to make the experience as comfortable and luxurious as possible. Highlights included:
- Executive Lounge Access
- Super king-size bed with an Irish-made King Koil mattress
- Optional roll-in bed available if needed
- Pillow menu for custom comfort
- 49-inch Smart TV with Chromecast connectivity
- Complimentary ultra-fast Wi-Fi
- Ensuite bathroom with a deep bathtub and a rainforest walk-in shower
- Air conditioning
- In-room safe
- Roberts radio
- Full-length wall mirror
- Tea and coffee facilities
- Nespresso coffee machine
- Hairdryer
- 24-hour room service
- Paul Costelloe toiletries
- Separate living area adjacent to the bedroom
- Fluffy bathrobes and slippers
These features added both practicality and comfort, making the suite feel more like a stylish apartment than a standard hotel room.
Executive Lounge
During our stay, we had access to the Executive Lounge at The Alex Hotel Dublin. Due to the Covid-19 measures in place at the time, the lounge was open, but the seating area couldn’t be used. Even so, we were still able to help ourselves to drinks throughout the day, up until 7:00 pm.
There was a selection of hot and cold beverages available, including coffee, bottled water, and a range of familiar soft drinks.
As shown in the images, the alcoholic options were fairly limited—mainly red and white wine, along with beer. However, these were available all day, which is more generous than what many other hotel groups offer in their executive lounges.
Snacks were minimal, consisting of just a few bags of crisps, a bowl of sweets, and some health bars. While this wasn’t an issue for us during our stay, the lounge itself is quite small, and we imagine it might feel a bit cramped once full seating access resumes.
Food & Drink
We don’t usually dine in hotel restaurants, as we often find the food and drinks to be a little overpriced. However, since our stay included a two-course dinner for two, we decided to review the offering at The Carriage Restaurant.
The restaurant is open daily from 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm and caters to a variety of dietary needs, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free options, which is always reassuring to see.
For starters, we chose the Duck Pancakes (€9.50), followed by the 10oz Striploin Steak (€26.00) as our main. The food was perfectly fine—nothing overly elaborate or elevated—but enjoyable and fairly priced if you were ordering directly from the menu.
Review: The Carriage Restaurant Menu
Breakfast was included in our booking, and we had the option to enjoy it either at The Carriage Restaurant or in our room. We chose in-room dining, as the suite’s spacious lounge area made it the perfect spot for a relaxed morning meal.
There were plenty of hot and cold breakfast options to choose from. Room service arrived right on time, and our order included a hot English breakfast, toast, fresh fruit, orange juice, and coffee. Everything was served piping hot and made for a calm, enjoyable start to the day.
Staff & Service
Overall, we couldn’t fault the staff or the service during our stay. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The only minor issue arose at checkout when our bill was incorrect. It took a little time for the team to resolve it, but they did sort everything out in the end.
Tips
Book directly with the hotel, as we found that some offers aren’t available on third-party booking sites.
The Eat, Sleep and Reconnect package offered better value than booking The Alex Suite with bed and breakfast alone.
Consider booking The Alex Suite—for us, the extra space and comfort made the additional cost absolutely worthwhile.
Summary: Alex Hotel Dublin
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at The Alex Hotel, and it exceeded our expectations—so much so that we would happily book again. The hotel’s excellent location, just a short walk from the city centre, made it an ideal base for exploring Dublin.
